Stuttgart - Stadium

Known for a long time as the Mercedes-Benz Arena and now called the MHP Arena, the Neckarstadion is going by the name Stuttgart Arena for the Euros.

Anyone who was last there prior to 2011 will remember it as a ground with curved ends, where the fans were a long way from the action. Well, that's now changed. Both ends have been properly squared off, so that it's now a pure football stadium.

Once holding 100,000 spectators, the capacity today for club matches is just over 60,000. For the Euros, this will drop to 54,000 due to the UEFA requirement for an all-seater configuration during the tournament.

Getting there from the city centre
One of the quickest and simplest routes from the main station (Hauptbahnhof) is to get the S-Bahn (metro), for example the S1 heading for Plochingen, and get out at Neckarpark. That's a 7-minute ride. It's then about a 10-minute walk to the stadium itself.

If you have a match ticket or a rail pass such as Interrail or the Deutschlandticket, you'll not need to pay any fare. If not, the VVS Stuttgart public transport website has all the information you'll need.

For getting to the stadium straight from the airport, see my Stuttgart Airport page.

To keep this page uncluttered, I've not included any photos. Instead, I've put together a selection in this Stuttgart City and Stadium Gallery
