Camping and campsites

Pitches close to the pitches

The last time I went camping in a tent was when I was a boy scout, and the last time I was on any sort of campsite was as a teenager on a family caravan holiday. So, I can't claim any expertise in this area. What I can do, however, is research how easy it is to get from various campsites to the centre of the Euro 2024 host cities. And that is what I've done.

The sites listed below are all within 60 minutes of the host city main station and/or stadium. And that's by public transport, as I've assumed that you'll not want to drive to the stadium on a matchday.

The two sites I've used for my research are Eurocampings.co.uk and Camping.info.

Here's what I found:

Potentially cheaper group-stage bases
For the group stage, it may work out cheaper to base yourself in a central spot away from any of the host cities. I suggest looking at the Würzburg area for Group A, at Hannover and environs for Group B, Group D and Group F, and at sites around Mannheim for Group C and Group E.

Campsites near Würzburg

Camping Schiefer Turm
It's on the Main riverside in Kitzingen and you can get to Würzburg main station on public transport in 45 minutes.

Kanu Club Würzburg
A small campsite (only 6 pitches for hire) run by the city's canoe club. On the riverside. 22 minutes by train to the main station.

For other campsites in the Würzburg area, see Eurocampings and for sites in the wider region see, Camping Info.

Campsites near Hannover

Camping Arnumer See
Near to a small lake, where swimming is allowed. 40 minutes by bus and tram to Hannover main station.

Campingplatz Birkensee
Located close to a sandy lakeside beach. Around 45 minutes by bus and rail to Hannover main station, including a fair walk.

For other campsites in the Hannover area, see Eurocampings and Camping Info.

Campsites near Mannheim

Camping Wiesensee
A 20-minute walk to the local station, then 25 minutes by train to Mannheim main station. Beside a small lake. On-site restaurant.

Camping Walldorf Astoria
A 4-minute walk to the bus stop, then 43 minutes on the bus and train to Mannheim main station. Fresh bread each morning. Snack bar / restaurant on site.

For other campsites in the Mannheim area, see Eurocampings and for the wider area see Camping Info.
