Accommodation by matchday

Matchday dates
Listed below are the group-stage matchdays by date, plus accommodation booking links and suggestions for each game.

Alternative options:
In case the host city rates are already too high for you, I've also listed an out of town option that you could try. In each case there is a direct rail link. The times I've shown are from main station to main station using local or regional services, not express trains that are excluded by some rail passes like the Deutschlandticket. If you have an Interrail pass, however, you can use express trains, so could reach the out-of-town locations faster.

All kick-off times shown are local time (CET).

Motel One Hamburg-Fleetinsel

Hostel suggestions:

Backpackers St. Pauli
The last time I was in Hamburg and potentially in the market for a hostel bed, my mates and I were so skint that we instead hopped on a train with our Interrail passes (it was that long ago!) and pulled out the seats of an old 6-seat compartment to make beds for ourselves there. For those in seach of a hostel during the Euros, however, this place looks a fair option. It's 25 minutes by bus from the main station in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg. It offers dormitory accommodation and has a bar.

MATCHDAY 3: 25 June, Netherlands vs Austria

Kick-off: 18:00
Venue: Berlin
Stay: Hotels Hostels Campsites Holiday homes

Hotel suggestions:

Motel One Alexanderplatz
“Before I moved to Berlin, I always used to stay at Motel One on Alexanderplatz”, says Liverpool and Union Berlin fan John. “It’s a 2 minute-walk from the station and has great transport links. Has a decent bar and in the evenings a bar on the top floor with views over Berlin. One train to the airport, one train to the Olympic Stadium. Also reasonable walking distance to the Nikolaiviertel, Gendarmenmarkt, Unter Den Linden, Hackeschermarkt, etc etc”

NH Hoteles Friedrichstrasse
“We used to stay at another hotel, but now always stay at the NH one on Friedrichstrasse, as it’s the perfect location for getting around”, says Palace and Union fan Huw.

Märkischer Hof
For several years before I got my own place in Berlin, this was where I stayed on my frequent visits to the city. It was a simple, if slightly tired hotel, but affordable and within walking distance of Friedrichstrasse station and much of the city centre. However, it’s changed a fair bit since then, I think.

Hostel suggestions:

EastSeven Berlin Hostel
Located in trendy Prenzlauer Berg, a 20-minute walk from Alexanderplatz. Very highly rated hostel, close to Senefelderplatz underground station, from where you can get a U2 U-Bahn straight to the stadium.

Eastener Hostel
A 10-minute walk to Friedrichstrasse station (from where trains run direct to the stadium) and 25 minutes on foot to the Brandenburg Gate. A small hostel for the independent traveller. Not, they stress, a party hostel!

Circus Hostel
Centrally located, almost right next door to the Rosenthaler Platz underground station, which puts you on the network for travel all around Berlin. Rated 'Superb' on Hostelworld. Also just across a park from FC Magnet Bar, a good bar for watching football, as mentioned on my Berlin City page.

Campsite suggestions:

Hotel & City Camping Nord
25 mins by bus away from Berlin-Spandau S-Bahn station, from which the Olympic Stadium is just 16 minutes and Zoologischer Garten station, the heart of former West Berlin, 23 minutes.

D.C.C. Camping Gatow
40 minutes to the Olympic Stadium (a 2-minute walk to General-Steinhoff-Kaserne bus stop, then the bus to Heerstrasse and the S-Bahn to the stadium).

Located in the Reinickendorf area of Berlin, this holiday home is a 23-minute drive from the Olympic Stadium. It has 2 bedrooms and a sofabed in the living room. Kitchen. Free Wi-Fi.

Located in a tree-lined village on the southern edge of Berlin, this holiday home is not far from BER Airport and just 500 metres from an S-Bahn (metro) station. One bedroom. Double sofabed in the living room. Patio, carport and BBQ.

Cozy log cabin on the southern edge of Berlin
